Civil works have started for a new 150-megawatt solar power plant in Daanbantayan, Cebu. The Cebu Provincial Government held a groundbreaking ceremony on March 16 at a 185-hectare site in Brgy. Talisay. Acciona Energia Global, a Spanish firm, will develop and maintain the plant, which is part of a public-private partnership. The project aims to boost power supply in Cebu and Central Visayas. PowerChina, a state-owned enterprise, will serve as the contractor. Acciona will fund the construction and operate the plant for 25 years before transferring it to the provincial government.
