Construction volunteers donate $15,000 to Hope House
Last week, a group of 20 volunteers from Southern Mesa, a construction company in Colorado Springs, donated their time and skills to support Hope House. They provided materials and labor valued at about $15,000 for the nonprofit, which aids homeless individuals through various services. These include emergency shelters, street outreach, addiction recovery programs, and rehousing assistance. The volunteers helped create a "safe space" for recovery coaches, new offices for staff, and a kitchen nook for life-skills classes. Jason Murphy, community engagement officer for Southern Mesa, stated that employees chose to donate their pay for the day to support this cause. He praised Hope COS for helping many individuals regain stability and health. Hope COS's associate director, Dominique Knowles, expressed appreciation for the community's support and highlighted the organization's commitment to helping people feel valued. The Hope House is located at 5440 N. Union Blvd. It operates as a warming shelter on nights when temperatures fall below 20 degrees Fahrenheit and serves as the main office for Hope COS. Since its opening in February 2022, Hope COS has expanded its services and is preparing to offer full outpatient mental health for substance use disorders in the near future. Knowles noted a positive trend, with more homeless individuals seeking support to achieve stability. This signals a growing desire among people to rebuild their lives and move away from homelessness.
