Construction workers rescue person from SE Portland fire

Two construction workers saved a person from a burning home in Southeast Portland on Monday morning. The fire occurred in the Hazelwood neighborhood around 9:20 a.m. Fire officials from Portland Fire & Rescue arrived to find smoke coming from a single-story house. Crews located a significant blaze at the back of the home and extinguished it within 10 minutes. Before firefighters arrived, the two workers witnessed the smoke from across the street. They quickly called 911 and opened the front door of the burning house. Thick smoke poured out as they entered. Inside, they saw a person crawling toward the door. The workers helped the individual and their dog escape safely. Emergency personnel later assessed the person and transported them to a hospital, where they were reported in stable condition.
