Continued heart failure medication reduces death, hospitalization risks

medicalxpress.com

A new study from Karolinska Institutet shows that heart failure patients who improve their heart function still face higher risks of death or hospitalization if they stop taking their medications. This research analyzed over 8,700 patients. Patients who discontinued medications like RASi, ARNi, or MRA had a 36-38% increased risk of heart-related issues within a year. Stopping beta-blockers raised risks only for those with moderate improvements in heart function. The study highlights the need to continue heart failure treatments even after improvements. Researchers plan further studies to refine treatment guidelines for patients with improved heart function.
