Cork garda honored as Blarney Person of the Year for bravery in domestic violence incident

Garda Timothy McSweeney, who was stabbed while responding to a domestic violence incident in Cork in March 2022, has been named the Blarney Person of the Year for 2024. He previously received the Scott medal for bravery. McSweeney was honored for his actions during the incident, where he confronted a male assailant armed with a knife. Despite suffering multiple stab wounds, he managed to subdue the attacker and call for help. The Blarney Person of the Year awards also recognized local figures for their contributions to education in Africa. McSweeney was selected from last year's monthly winners for his bravery and selflessness.
