Costco extends gas station hours for member convenience

Costco's CEO, Ron Vachris, has announced changes to the gas station hours at every store in the U.S. to improve convenience for members. The gas stations will now be open longer, operating from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and adjusted hours during the weekends. This change comes as Costco looks to attract more members after a recent drop in fuel sales. The company has over 600 locations in the U.S., and Vachris noted that the extended hours were tested at some locations with positive results. Costco's gas stations are only available to its members, who benefit from lower fuel prices. Currently, Costco's Kirkland fuel is about 20 cents cheaper per gallon compared to competitors. Recent reports show a slight decline in gas revenue for Costco, partly due to falling gas prices. The national average gas price has dropped to around $3.20 a gallon, giving customers more options. Costco's CFO, Gary Millerchip, acknowledged that fuel sales have decreased but expressed optimism about the early response to the new hours. In addition to the change in gas station operations, Costco is expanding its overall presence. Currently, 60 U.S. locations are undergoing expansions, which includes improving gas station facilities. The move aims to keep Costco competitive in the changing fuel market while providing better service for its members.
