Costco limits egg purchases, causing long lines nationwide
A Costco shopper from California has gained attention for his method of bypassing the store's limit on egg purchases. Due to a nationwide egg shortage, Costco has restricted customers to buying only three crates of eggs at a time. The shopper, known as Dilly, explained his strategy on social media. He buys three crates, loads them in his car, and then re-enters the store to buy another three. He also suggested visiting multiple Costco locations to stock up on eggs. The egg shortage has caused long lines at Costco stores. One shopper shared a video showing a line wrapping around her local Costco, stating she arrived an hour early. The price of eggs has surged, reaching about $5.90 for a dozen in February, up from $4.95 in January. The rise in egg prices is due to supply issues, worsened by avian flu that led to the culling of millions of birds. Other retailers have also imposed limits on egg purchases, such as Aldi and Sam’s Club, where shoppers can only buy two crates. Trader Joe’s allows customers to buy only one egg product. In addition, some restaurant chains have begun to charge more for eggs. Waffle House added a surcharge, while Cracker Barrel did not follow this practice.
