Costco steak priced much higher than Metro's offer
A Costco shopper recently highlighted a striking price difference on strip loin steaks. In a TikTok video, the user, known as @m70project, showed a package priced at $69 at Costco. The video caught the attention of over 71,000 viewers. The shopper claimed he found a similar package the day before at Metro for just $26. An off-camera voice expressed surprise at the high Costco price. Many users chimed in, suggesting that the price differences might be linked to the quality of the meat offered by the two retailers. According to Metro's website, their strip loin steaks are priced at C$37.46 per kilogram, while Costco's is higher at C$38.89 per kilogram. However, the cheaper price could also be because the Metro package is smaller. Over the years, Costco has faced criticism from shoppers about its beef prices. In 2023, customers complained about high prices, including C$54.99 per kg for prime rib steaks. Some argued that Costco prioritizes higher-quality cuts, which could explain the price hike. Commenters on TikTok debated whether the difference in price meant a quality difference, with some claiming that Metro's quality is comparable or better. Others expressed skepticism about Costco's supposed quality advantage and emphasized the importance of knowing prices when shopping there.
