Councillor advocates for neurodivergent representation in politics
Councillor Anna-Maria Toms, recently diagnosed with autism, advocates for more neurodivergent individuals in politics. She believes their experiences can improve policy-making and support for neurodivergent communities. Toms has served Harrowgate Hill in Darlington for the Green Party since 2023. Toms highlights her strengths in research and problem-solving as benefits of her autism. She acknowledges the challenges of political life, such as campaigning and sensory sensitivities, but appreciates the support from colleagues and the opportunity to address community issues. Fellow Green Party councillor Matthew Snedker praises Toms for her unique perspective and contributions to the party.
