Councillor shares controversial video, questions women police officers
Stuart Davies, a politician from North Somerset, has stirred controversy after sharing a video from far-right figure Tommy Robinson. He recently joined Reform UK, a party led by Nigel Farage, along with 28 other councillors. This move has drawn criticism from the public. Mr. Davies has made several troubling comments. He praised Elon Musk for paying Robinson's legal fees and expressed support for a documentary featuring Robinson. He also questioned whether some women should be police officers and suggested that diversity efforts in law enforcement compromise safety. Earlier in the year, Davies was removed from a coalition led by the Liberal Democrats due to his views. He clarified on social media that he is “not necessarily a fan” of Robinson but was curious about Musk's perspective. His comments on policing were made in response to a right-wing pundit. In January, Davies also shared a conspiracy theory about vaccines reducing fertility, linking it to Bill Gates. This further raised eyebrows about his views and qualifications. Farage has promised to improve the vetting process for candidates. He stated that the party will be held to a higher standard. At a recent press conference, he showcased the new recruits and emphasized the party's growth despite internal challenges. Critics like Labour MP Paul Waugh have expressed concern about the quality of candidates joining Reform UK. They fear this could indicate deeper issues within the party. Farage continues to promote the party's expansion and modernization efforts.
