Countries agree on new climate funding deal at UN talks in Baku
Countries at the UN climate talks in Baku have agreed that wealthy nations will contribute at least $300 billion annually by 2035 to support developing countries facing climate change. This amount falls short of the $1.3 trillion requested by poorer nations. The new funding deal replaces a previous commitment of $100 billion per year established 15 years ago. The funds will be used for clean energy transitions, infrastructure improvements, and disaster preparedness in vulnerable communities. Negotiations were challenging due to geopolitical tensions and differing priorities among nations. Despite dissatisfaction with the agreement, delegates ultimately chose to compromise to secure a deal.
