Couple arrested for murder of premature baby in Karnataka
In Karnataka, police arrested a couple for killing their premature baby born out of wedlock. The arrests happened in Ambadgatti village, near Kittur, where the baby's body was discovered in a bush on March 23. The couple, Mahabaleshwar Kaloji, 31, and Simran Maulasab, 22, were taken into custody on March 24. Authorities reported that Kaloji put the baby in a plastic bag and abandoned it. They believe the baby might have died from a head injury after the bag fell on a stone. The couple had been in a relationship for several years, facing opposition from their families because of their different religions. Simran became pregnant but did not seek medical help. After a premature delivery at home, she and Kaloji attempted to dispose of the baby's body. They have been charged with murder and concealing a child's birth. The police filed the case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which include penalties for murder and destroying evidence. A report has been filed at the Kittur police station.
