Couple turns shed into profitable two-story lake house
A married couple has turned a shed into a beautiful lake house. They found the shed in a Home Depot parking lot and saw potential in it. The couple, Dawn and Richard Cook, remodeled the shed into a two-story home with two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. They sold the finished house for nearly $500,000. The shed they purchased was the Tuff Shed TR-1600 Sundance Series and cost them $27,000. Dawn, a former real estate agent, used her skills to refurbish the shed. They placed it on land they owned and wanted to develop. Since the couple did not have professional construction training, they hired experts for important jobs. These included building the foundation, installing electrical and plumbing systems, and adding insulation. The home features two balconies, a full kitchen, a laundry closet, and a patio. To decorate the lake house, Dawn drew inspiration from farm and beach styles. She selected tongue and groove shiplap for the walls and sourced cabinets from Lowe's. They lived in the house for six months while renovating it. After completing the renovations, the house attracted many interested buyers. It ultimately sold for $460,000, and the new owner resold it for $505,000.
