Couples in Paradise scramble for new wedding venues
The Woodstock Public House in Paradise has closed suddenly, leaving couples who booked weddings there in a difficult position. Owner Brendon O'Rourke announced the closure on social media, leaving many brides and grooms scrambling for new venues. Vanessa Bursey, one of the affected couples, expressed her disappointment. She said losing their venue felt like their wedding plans were falling apart. They had made a $1,000 deposit to secure their date, and now they are unsure if they will get it back. Bursey mentioned that communication regarding the refund has been slow. The Woodstock has been a local landmark since 1927. O’Rourke took over the restaurant in 2019, previously known as the Woodstock Colonial Restaurant. In his closure announcement, he reflected on the challenges faced during the pandemic and thanked staff and patrons for their support. Many people responded to O'Rourke's post, sharing memories of past events held at the restaurant. Some inquiries were made about previously purchased gift certificates. Bursey has managed to find a new venue for her wedding but noted that the Woodstock had special significance for them. They are hopeful their new choice will not lead to similar issues.
