Court acquits model in murder case while boyfriend is convicted in Philippines
A Quezon City Court has acquitted model Althea Altamirano of conspiracy to murder her friend, Julie Ann Rodelas, who was killed in November 2012. Altamirano's boyfriend, Fernando Quiambao Jr., was found guilty of abducting and murdering Rodelas. Judge Caridad Lutero ordered Altamirano's release but imposed a fine of P100,000 in moral damages. Quiambao received a life sentence and must pay Rodelas' family nearly P484,000 in damages. The court found no evidence that Altamirano was aware of Quiambao's plan to kill Rodelas. Testimony indicated that Quiambao acted independently, deciding to kill Rodelas after she recognized him.
