Court to hear case of detained Columbia student Khalil

A federal court hearing is set for Wednesday regarding Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate student detained by immigration agents. The Trump Administration seeks to deport him due to his involvement in pro-Palestinian protests. Khalil, a permanent U.S. resident, was arrested in New York and moved to a detention center in Louisiana. His lawyers argue the government is retaliating against him for his speech and seek his return to New York. The government plans to argue that the case does not belong in the Southern District of New York. Khalil has not been charged with a crime and is married to a U.S. citizen.
