The ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) in Kerala has denied claims that the inauguration of their new headquarters is set for April 23 because it is considered an auspicious day. M.V. Govindan, the party's State secretary, stated that the date was chosen based on the availability of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who will perform the opening ceremony. Govindan explained that the dates suggested for the event included April 22, 23, and 24. The only date that was convenient for Chief Minister Vijayan was the 23rd. He criticized certain media reports for presenting this decision in a misleading manner, claiming it framed the news negatively. The new AKG Centre, designed by architect N. Mahesh, has nine floors and two levels of basement parking. It is located near the existing AKG Study Centre. Govindan also noted that all operations of the CPI(M) State committee will move to the new building. The total cost of construction will be disclosed after the project is fully completed and all expenses are finalized.
