CR 475 overpass closed for repairs after truck collision
The CR 475 overpass over I-75 was closed on Monday morning for repairs after a dump truck collision. The incident occurred at 1:20 a.m. when the truck driver, a 56-year-old man from Ocala, accidentally left the dump bed raised while passing beneath the overpass. This caused the bed to strike the bridge, damaging it. The truck continued several feet after losing the bed and came to a stop a short distance away. Fortunately, the driver was not injured. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that he has been charged with careless driving. Traffic was heavily affected, and motorists were directed to detour using U.S. 301 and County Road 484. Florida Department of Transportation engineers assessed the damage, but it will take time to determine a repair timeline. As of now, the overpass is safe to use, although one shoulder is closed. Dump truck accidents can be serious, and Florida has had a high number of such incidents. In another recent case, a woman was killed in a crash involving a dump truck in Lake County. Experts note that the demands on dump truck drivers can lead to dangerous driving behaviors, increasing the risk of accidents on the road.
