Criminal charges planned against illegal land plotters in Pune

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

The state government of Maharashtra plans to take strong action against people involved in illegal land plotting in Pune. Revenue Minister Chandrashekar Bawankule announced that criminal charges will be filed within two weeks. This decision comes after concerns raised by MLC Yogesh Tilekar from the BJP. Bawankule confirmed that authorities have previously acted against illegal land plotting. However, he noted that some offenders repeatedly engage in such activities even after demolition efforts. To tackle this issue effectively, a committee will be established, including police and forest department officers, to monitor and prevent illegal constructions. Recent demolition actions have included tearing down concrete roads and tin sheds built in restricted hilltop and hill slope areas. Tilekar mentioned that some individuals have ignored revenue department rules and developed small plots near Satara Road, which are now being misused for illegal businesses. This not only harms the civic environment but also threatens local residents' safety. The illegal plots are being sold to unsuspecting buyers, many from poorer communities, who are often deceived. Bawankule emphasized that efforts are being made to expedite the development plan for Yewalewadi, aiming to ensure better management of these areas.
