Crimson Desert showcases groundbreaking in-game physics technology
At GDC 2025, Pearl Abyss showcased their new game, Crimson Desert, which uses the advanced engine from Black Desert Online. The game focuses on a character named Kliff, a mercenary who gets caught in conflicts that threaten the world of Pywel. The developers demonstrated the engine's impressive capabilities. It shows realistic elements like fire, water, light, and wind. The technology allows for a highly detailed and seamless open world, enhancing player immersion. During the demonstration, the team highlighted how the game's environment reacts to weather conditions. They showed how cloth and hair move with the wind and how shadows change with different light sources. This attention to detail affects both NPCs and natural elements, making the world feel more alive. One standout moment involved a horse interacting with water. When Kliff rode through a stream, only the parts of the horse that touched the water got wet. This level of realism is unique in video games, as most games do not capture such detailed interactions. While the demonstration was visually stunning, the author could not comment on the gameplay experience. However, the combat and exploration showcased were exciting. Crimson Desert promises to be an immersive experience for fans of role-playing games. The game is scheduled for release on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC in late 2025.
