CU Buffs defeat No. 18 Stony Brook 7-6

Colorado's women's lacrosse team faced a challenging start this season. After losing four of their first five games against ranked teams, they managed to regroup during some home games. On Thursday, they celebrated their third consecutive victory by defeating No. 18 Stony Brook 7-6 at Prentup Field. The match began slowly, with nearly ten minutes passing before Stony Brook scored the first goal. Colorado responded well, scoring three goals in quick succession to take a 3-1 lead early in the second quarter. The teams continued to trade goals, but the Buffs held a 5-3 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Colorado's Molly Reed scored to extend the lead to three. However, the Seawolves fought back, scoring three of the next four goals and narrowing the gap. Despite the pressure, Colorado defense held Stony Brook scoreless in the final minutes, securing the tight win. Overall, Colorado outshot Stony Brook 26-22, with both teams having 14 shots on goal. Freshman goalie Elena Oh had a strong performance, saving eight shots. Next, the Buffs will take on Dartmouth in Houston before returning home for an important match against Florida on April 12.
