Cuddalore arrests two convicted in POCSO case
The Crime Branch-CID police in Cuddalore have arrested two people, including a woman, who had been on the run for nearly eight years. They were convicted in a case involving the trafficking of two minor girls for sex work. Sathishkumar, the main accused, was caught on March 18, 2025, while working for a private company in Coimbatore. Tamizharasi, also known as Kavitha, was arrested on March 19, 2025, in Tiruvannamalai, where she was a domestic worker. The case began in 2014. It involved serious charges under various laws, including the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The investigation was initially handled by Tittagudi police but was later transferred to the CB-CID by the Madras High Court. A total of 16 people were convicted in this case, receiving sentences from four life terms to 10 years in prison. While two accused died during the trial, three, including Sathishkumar and Tamizharasi, fled. Jebina, another accused, was arrested in 2024. Following guidance from police officials, a special team was created to locate the absconders. Under the leadership of various officers, Sathishkumar and Tamizharasi were finally apprehended. They have since been taken to Cuddalore Central Prison.
