Cumberland County woman arrested for false rape report
A woman from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, is facing charges for making a false report to the police. Hope Bertrum, 50, was arrested on Tuesday. She is accused of making several calls to the McSherrystown Police Department, claiming that someone had been raped and needed urgent help. The investigation began around March 9 when deputies were notified about her calls. Bertrum claimed she received reports of a young girl being assaulted. However, police found no evidence of any crime after checking various locations in McSherrystown. Deputies looked at Bertrum's call log and discovered no incoming calls matching her claims. In a conversation with law enforcement, she admitted to "Googling addresses" and insisting that mysterious callers were contacting her about the incidents. Previously, Bertrum had made other strange reports, including claiming that her cats were murdered in her yard, but deputies found no proof of this either. She has been released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court soon.
