D Gukesh names Abhinav Bindra as key inspiration after becoming youngest chess world champion
D Gukesh, at 18, recently became the youngest world chess champion after defeating Ding Liren in Singapore. He broke a record held by Garry Kasparov since 1985 and is only the second Indian to win this title. While Gukesh credits his parents and chess legends like Viswanathan Anand for his success, he also finds inspiration in Abhinav Bindra, the first Indian to win an individual Olympic gold medal. He admires Bindra's journey but focuses on becoming the best chess player. Gukesh won $1.3 million for his championship victory and will compete next at the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in the Netherlands from January 17 to February 2.
