Daily activities may burn more calories than workouts
Experts suggest that everyday activities can burn more calories than traditional workouts. This concept, known as non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT), includes tasks like standing at work, adjusting posture, and fidgeting. Standing instead of sitting can burn an extra 15 to 30 calories per hour. Simple movements, such as walking while on the phone or doing household chores, can also significantly increase calorie expenditure. Activities like taking the stairs, playing with children or pets, and gardening contribute to calorie burning without the need for structured exercise. These movements can lead to substantial energy use over time.
