Dana Chandler seeks fourth trial for 2002 murders
Dana Chandler is seeking a new trial for her 2002 murder convictions. She was found guilty of killing her ex-husband, Michael Sisco, and his fiancée, Karen Harkness. Chandler, 65, has had 12 different lawyers since her case began in 2011. Now, David Eugene McDonald will assist her as standby counsel. Chandler was convicted on March 7 of this year. She decided to represent herself in her recent trial after firing her court-appointed attorneys. However, she asked for help with legal processes as she plans to submit post-conviction motions, including one for a new trial. McDonald, from Rivera Law, LLC, is a graduate of Washburn Law School. He has faced challenges in his career, including a physical attack in court in 2014 that left him with serious injuries. McDonald has experience in criminal defense, having worked on notable murder cases. The next court hearing for Chandler will take place on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Shawnee County District Court, Topeka. Chandler intends to continue representing herself, but will have McDonald available for support.
