Danish politician warns of U.S. pressure for Greenland
A Danish politician, Rasmus Jarlov, suggested that former President Donald Trump might blackmail Denmark into giving up Greenland. Jarlov expressed his regret over Denmark's decision to buy F-35 fighter jets from the U.S. in a social media post. He implied that the U.S. could threaten to disable Denmark's fighter jets unless the country agreed to hand over Greenland. This idea came in response to a report claiming the Pentagon denied the existence of a remote "kill switch" for the F-35 jets. Jarlov stated that the U.S. could still disable the jets by halting spare parts supply. He accused the U.S. of wanting to damage loyal allies like Canada and warned that Denmark could face threats from the U.S. regarding Greenland. He urged Denmark and its allies to avoid purchasing American weapons, citing security risks. Jarlov noted that Denmark plans to invest heavily in its military and should seek alternatives to U.S. weapons. Trump has previously suggested that the U.S. might annex Greenland for national security reasons. He did not rule out using military or economic pressure to achieve this goal. At a press conference, he mentioned existing U.S. military bases in Greenland.
