Danny Walker replaces Jason Day at Players Championship
On Thursday, Jason Day withdrew from the Players Championship due to illness. This left an opening for alternate players. Danny Walker, a newcomer to the PGA Tour, was the one who got the chance to compete. Walker, who grew up in Florida, has loved golf since he was three years old. He often attended events in Orlando and Tampa Bay. He has tried to earn his tour card since 2018 but faced many near-misses along the way. He lost his Korn Ferry Tour card in 2023 and was going through the PGA Tour Q School. However, he finally earned his Tour card in 2024 by finishing in the top 30 in the Korn Ferry Campaign. When he received the call to replace Jason Day, Walker was not expecting it. He explained that entering as an alternate player is uncertain. Just a short time before the call, Walker was even in the restroom at the locker room. Once he got the news, he sat in his car for a few moments to take it all in. He described the experience as “surreal” and was thrilled to finally participate. On the day of his debut, he played in front of a supportive crowd. Walker performed well, finishing in 6th place at the Championship. He quickly gained attention and a growing fan base for his performance and enthusiastic attitude. As Walker continues his first season on the PGA Tour, fans are excited to see what he will do next. The season has started strong for rookie players like him, and many are eager to follow his journey.
