A new game mode called Mortis Trials is coming to Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. This mode offers players a roguelite experience centered around wave defense battles against heretics. Players will face 12 waves of increasing difficulty, with a mix of combat and special objectives. Fatshark, the game's developer, has been experimenting with different formats. The Havoc mode introduced more challenges for advanced players. Mortis Trials, however, aims to be accessible for immediate fun, starting at trust level 13. During the trials, players will fight against visions of heretics in the Theatres of Mortification. Every third wave will require players to complete a small task to earn supplies and buffs. This gameplay loop is similar to the popular game Killing Floor. Mortis Trials introduces unique buffs that enhance gameplay through a new system called indulgences. These indulgences allow players to specialize their characters with options that improve elemental damage and survivability. Players can stack buffs based on choices made during the trial. The lore behind the mode connects to a character named Sefoni, who creates the trials and has a mysterious past. Sefoni adds a dark twist to the trials, as fragments of her history may surface during play. Mortis Trials will launch on March 25. Despite a challenging start, Darktide has gained a strong following thanks to Fatshark's commitment to updates and improvements. Players eager to join in can find Darktide on Steam.
