Daughter urges UK government to expand payment scheme
Jane Libberton, daughter of Philomena Lee, criticized the exclusion of some women from the Mother-and-Baby Institutions Payment Scheme. She stated that many survivors cannot apply due to the scheme's limitations, which she called "completely unjust." The British Labour Party has introduced Philomena's Law in Parliament to help survivors in the UK access compensation. Libberton emphasized the need for greater awareness of the scheme, as many potential applicants remain uninformed. Minister Martin Heydon noted that there is a mechanism to add more institutions to the payment scheme. He mentioned that a report on the scheme is expected by June, with a review due by September 2026.
