David Andrews released by New England Patriots after ten seasons
David Andrews, a veteran center for the New England Patriots, was released last week after ten seasons with the team. While he had anticipated the possibility of being let go, the news still surprised him. He expressed his feelings on his podcast, saying, “You’re a little shocked by it.” Andrews has played 124 regular-season games since 2015 and has won two Super Bowls with the Patriots. He served as a team captain and was one of the last connections to the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era. Unfortunately, injuries have impacted his performance. Last season, he played only four games before opting for shoulder surgery. Andrews made the choice to have surgery, knowing that it might affect his future with the team. He felt that he would not be able to help the team with his shoulder in bad shape. The Patriots have since signed former Vikings center Garrett Bradbury to replace him. At 32 years old, Andrews is unsure about his next steps. He has not confirmed plans for retirement or a desire to continue his career with another team. He remains fond of the Patriots organization and the New England community, stating, "We’re still here." For now, he is taking time to consider his options.
