He had been investigated for multiple rape allegations before he drugged and overdosed Giles and Arzola in 2021. Prosecutors say he lured them to his apartment under false pretenses. After giving them fentanyl-laced cocaine, Pearce watched them die from overdoses. He then discarded their bodies outside two hospitals. His roommate testified that Pearce insisted on not calling for help, saying, “Dead girls don’t talk.” Critics argue that police missed multiple chances to stop Pearce before he harmed his victims. Between 2007 and 2020, several rape cases against him had been brought to prosecutors. After his arrest, twelve more women accused him of assault, often involving date rape drugs. Pearce is facing a life sentence for his crimes, which include two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of rape. He has dismissed his legal team and plans to seek a new trial.
