Davy approved to buy The Shay stadium in Calderdale

Ken Davy, the owner of Huddersfield Giants, has received approval from Calderdale Council to buy The Shay stadium. This stadium is home to both the Halifax Panthers and FC Halifax Town. Davy plans to use The Shay temporarily for the Giants starting in 2026. This move will happen while a new stadium is being built in Huddersfield. He has promised to invest significantly in improving The Shay to meet the Super League standards. Construction of a hybrid pitch at The Shay is set to begin in summer 2025. Davy will provide interest-free loans to support this project. FC Halifax Town noted that there are many questions that need to be answered regarding the sale and the future of the stadium. They also mentioned that discussions are happening with various groups involved. The council had put The Shay up for sale about a year ago to help with budget savings. Supporters of Halifax Town previously expressed their desire to keep the stadium and suggested that a non-profit trust should manage it instead of selling it to a private owner. Currently, the Giants play at the John Smith's Stadium, which has a capacity of over 24,000. However, their average attendance last season was just over 4,600 fans.
