Death toll in Lebanon from Israel-Hezbollah conflict exceeds 3,000 in 13 months
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has resulted in over 3,000 deaths in Lebanon in the past 13 months, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. This toll is more than double the casualties from their last major war two decades ago.
The conflict escalated significantly in September, with intense Israeli airstrikes and a ground invasion of southern Lebanon. Israel claims to be targeting Hezbollah's military infrastructure, while Hezbollah continues to launch rockets into northern Israel.
In a separate development, Israel has terminated its agreement with the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, which has provided aid in Gaza. This move is part of new legislation aimed at limiting the agency's operations, raising concerns about the humanitarian situation in the region.
