Deebo Samuel signs $17M guaranteed contract with Commanders
The Washington Commanders have made a significant move by signing wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a new one-year deal. This contract guarantees him $17 million, according to a report by ESPN. Samuel was traded to the Commanders from the San Francisco 49ers earlier this month. The deal was finalized on March 12, which marked the start of the new NFL year. In addition to the guaranteed money, Samuel's new contract includes $3 million in performance-based incentives. The 29-year-old receiver was set to earn a base salary of $16.6 million in 2025. However, this amount had no guarantees before the recent changes were made. Last season, Samuel faced some challenges with rib and calf injuries but still managed to play in 15 games, starting all of them. During the 2024 season, he recorded 51 catches for 670 yards and had 42 carries for 136 yards, scoring four touchdowns. Throughout his career, Samuel has made 334 receptions for 4,792 yards and rushed for 1,143 yards, totaling 42 touchdowns in 81 games. He was drafted by the 49ers in the second round in 2019 and earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in 2021.
