Defense team accused of instigating federal investigation
In the Karen Read case, a new filing has raised serious allegations against her defense team. Special prosecutor Hank Brennan claims that Read's lawyers influenced a federal investigation into John O'Keefe's death. They allegedly provided selective information to federal authorities to shape the inquiry in their favor. According to Brennan, the federal investigation has now concluded without any charges being filed. He is requesting that references to this federal investigation be excluded from Read’s upcoming trial. Brennan also wants to prevent a former FBI agent, Michael Easter, from testifying for the defense. He argues that Easter is unqualified to speak about the police investigation that led to Read’s arrest and its supposed flaws. Karen Read is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday for a hearing. Her trial is set to start on April 1.
