Deion Sanders defends religious practices in Colorado football
Deion Sanders, head coach of Colorado football, plans to continue incorporating religious practices, including team prayers and chaplains, despite criticism from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. They argue these practices violate the rights of non-religious players. The foundation previously challenged Sanders' faith-based methods when he joined the team in 2023. In response, the University provided training on religious expression in public institutions. Sanders has received support from the First Liberty Institute, which claims his actions are protected under U.S. traditions of public prayer. He recently invited actor Denzel Washington, a licensed minister, to speak to the team during spring training.
