Deionna Borders named Girls Wrestler of the Year
The 2025 cleveland.com Girls Wrestling All-Star team has been announced, highlighting the best female wrestlers from Northeast Ohio. Deionna Borders, a junior from Berea-Midpark, had an extraordinary season. She finished the year with a perfect record of 47 wins and no losses. Borders previously placed seventh and third at state but aimed for the championship this year. She won every match at the Division I state tournament in Columbus, including a decisive 4-0 victory in the finals. Borders credits a recent second-place finish at the Fargo Nationals for boosting her confidence and motivation. The first-team selections include several standout athletes. Destiny Cabot from Avon Lake placed fourth in her weight class after a solid tournament. GG Dominish, a freshman from Perry, showcased her skills by finishing third in the 105-pound category. Abby Cornwell, also from Perry, had a strong comeback performance to secure seventh place. Other notable wrestlers include Stella Januszewski from Strongsville, who earned eighth place, and Anna Madi from Brecksville, a three-time state placer. Rejan Al-Hashash from Avon Lake faced challenges but ended her career as a three-time state placer. The All-Star team celebrates the hard work and dedication of these young female wrestlers, highlighting their achievements on the mat and their contributions to the sport.
