Dela Rosa considers hiding from potential ICC arrest
Senator Ronaldo “Bato” Dela Rosa is thinking about going into hiding. He mentioned this possibility during a phone interview with Senate reporters on Wednesday. Dela Rosa is considering this option in case the Supreme Court decides against him regarding his petition to stop the government from cooperating with the International Criminal Court (ICC). Dela Rosa seeks to block the ICC's investigation into the drug war conducted during former President Rodrigo Duterte's administration. He affirmed that hiding is a serious consideration for him. "That is one of the things we are considering," he said, discussing possible actions he might take. The senator, who was Duterte's police chief, has faced scrutiny over his role in a drug war that resulted in thousands of deaths. Recently, Dela Rosa expressed a willingness to join Duterte in The Hague to face charges related to crimes against humanity. However, he now questions this plan, noting the difficulties in visiting those detained abroad. He reflected on the challenges, stating that even Duterte's children have trouble visiting him in the ICC. This has made Dela Rosa reconsider his stance. He suggested that if he sees hope in the Supreme Court's independence, he might change his plan. For now, he feels more inclined to stay in the Senate to avoid potential arrest.
