Dela Rosa defends Enrile's karma comments, highlights experience

MANILA, Philippines – Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile recently made comments about "irony" and "karma." In response, Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa urged respect for Enrile's views, noting his age. Dela Rosa said, "Every person has the right to his own opinion. Let’s respect it because he’s old." Enrile’s remarks, shared on Facebook, mentioned that those who had committed acts of injustice were now seeking justice themselves. He referred to this situation as a "pathetic and ghastly irony" and ended with, “Karma!! Abra cadabra!! What a tragic miscalculation!" Although he did not name anyone, Dela Rosa alluded to their past support for Enrile during the 1986 coup against former President Ferdinand Marcos. Dela Rosa recalled that he and his peers, as cadets at the Philippine Military Academy, volunteered to support Enrile during that time. He emphasized his ongoing support for Enrile and maintained that he has no regrets about his actions back then. Currently, Dela Rosa faces potential legal action from the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity linked to the previous administration's war on drugs. As the first chief of police under former President Rodrigo Duterte, Dela Rosa expressed confidence in Enrile and the military's actions during the coup.
