Delhi airport plans to boost international air traffic
Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport has launched a new system called "slot banks" to improve flight coordination and speed up connections. This initiative aims to increase international-to-international air traffic from 3% to 10% over the next five years. The airport is expanding its capacity and optimizing connections to establish itself as a major global hub. Currently, IGI serves 150 destinations and has seen a 300% increase in international passenger transfers, particularly from Southeast Asia to Europe. To enhance operations, IGI plans to raise domestic and international landing charges while offering incentives for new long-haul routes. Improvements in transit experiences between terminals are also underway, including increased bus services.
