Delhi BJP honors 1975-77 emergency detainees

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) honored individuals who were detained during the Emergency period in India from 1975 to 1977. This took place at the Loktantra Vijay Divas event on Friday at the NDMC Convention Centre. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva spoke at the event. He praised the emergency detainees, calling them true patriots. "March 21 is a day of victory for democracy, as it marks the end of the Emergency," he said. He noted that many who opposed the Emergency spent 19 months in jail and their sacrifices helped preserve Indian democracy. Sachdeva also expressed support for the detainees and their families. He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked to strengthen India's democratic presence on the global stage.
