The government in Delhi, led by the BJP, is considering renaming the Mohalla Bus Service. The new name could be either NAMO Bus or Antyodaya Bus, according to sources. The revamped service is set to launch on April 1, featuring 200 new electric buses. The goal is to improve last-mile connectivity and reduce traffic congestion. The Mohalla Bus Service was originally started by the Aam Aadmi Party last year. It was designed to help people reach areas with narrow roads and ease demand on existing public transport. Delhi’s transport minister, Pankaj Singh, announced plans to add about 2,000 new buses to the fleet in the first week of April. This will include both 12-meter and 9-meter buses. Singh mentioned that 80 percent of charging stations for these new electric buses have already been set up. Old buses will be phased out in batches. This year, 3,000 DTC buses and 2,000 cluster buses are scheduled for replacement. Singh assured that many new electric buses would join the fleet as part of this phase-out process. Women will continue to travel for free on public transport buses. Singh also expressed his commitment to turning around the financially struggling Delhi Transport Corporation and ensuring it becomes profitable. Other proposed changes by BJP MLAs include renaming certain areas in Delhi.
