Delhi considers reintroducing odd-even vehicle scheme as air quality worsens
Delhi's air quality has been in the "severe plus" category since Sunday, with pollution levels consistently above 450. The government is considering reintroducing the odd-even vehicle rationing scheme as part of its response to the worsening situation. Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated that the government is closely monitoring air quality and will decide on preventive measures based on expert advice. The odd-even rule would restrict the use of petrol and diesel vehicles, while electric and CNG vehicles would be exempt. Currently, a ban on most commercial vehicles and certain private vehicles is in place under the Graded Response Action Plan. If implemented, this would mark the fourth time Delhi has used the odd-even scheme since its introduction in 2016.
