Delhi cop arrested for accepting Rs 2.5 lakh bribe
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a sub-inspector of the Delhi Police accused of taking a bribe. The officer, Rahul Malik, was taken into custody on March 19 for allegedly demanding Rs 2.5 lakh. The case began when a business owner from Mumbai filed a written complaint. This complainant was involved with a private company focused on cash management. He claimed his login credentials for virtual wallets were created under a fake name, which was part of an ongoing investigation at a cyber police station. Malik reportedly threatened the complainant's brother-in-law with arrest during their investigation proceedings. On March 7, Malik demanded a bribe of Rs 50 lakh to protect both of them from charges. He later met the complainant at a hotel, repeating his demand and lowering the amount to Rs 14 lakh after negotiations. Malik also shared details about how to deliver the bribe. The CBI set up a trap on March 19, which led to his arrest during the planned transaction. The investigation into Malik's actions is continuing, and the CBI has taken steps to address police corruption.
