Delhi court criticizes lawyer for poor time management
A Delhi court criticized a lawyer for poor time management during a case related to the northeast Delhi riots. The lawyer, Mehmood Pracha, represents one of the accused, Haseen alias Mullaji. The court expressed frustration when Pracha asked to re-examine a witness but left midway to attend another hearing. The case involves 11 people, including former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain. They are charged with criminal conspiracy and promoting enmity based on religion. The court is currently in the examination phase of police witnesses. The judge, Pulastya Pramachala at Karkardooma court, dismissed Pracha's request to call back a forensic expert for further questioning. The lawyer argued that he could not complete the cross-examination during a previous session because he had to hurry to the Delhi High Court. The prosecution opposed the application, citing legal rules that state being engaged in another court is not a valid reason to delay witness examination. They also pointed out that Pracha has previously requested adjournments in similar situations. The judge emphasized that lawyers need to manage their schedules effectively when handling multiple cases.
