Delhi HC grants bail to Unitech founder Ramesh Chandra
The Delhi High Court has granted bail to Ramesh Chandra, the founder of Unitech, in a money laundering case. The decision was made on March 21, 2025, by Justice Jasmeet Singh. Chandra is 88 years old. Chandra was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in October 2021. He received interim bail in 2022 for medical reasons, and this bail was extended several times. The High Court noted that Chandra was involved in serious crimes related to diverting funds of around ₹5,826 crore, which affected home buyers who were left without homes. The case originated from multiple FIRs filed by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police. These charges include cheating, criminal conspiracy, and bribery involving public servants. The court's detailed order on Chandra's bail is still pending.
