The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Delhi police sub-inspector for bribery. The officer, named Rahul Malik, worked at the Cyber police station in Rohini. Malik allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹ 2.5 lakh from a businessman in Navi Mumbai. He wanted the money to avoid arresting the businessman and his relative in an ongoing cyber case. The CBI began investigating after receiving a complaint from the businessman. The officer was arrested in Delhi on Wednesday. He was then taken to a special court in New Delhi, where he received a transit remand until Friday. He is set to appear in a designated CBI court in Mumbai. The complainant runs a travel business and had issues with a Delhi-based company, which had given him fake login credentials for virtual wallets. Malik reportedly visited the complainant’s home on March 7 and demanded a larger bribe of ₹ 50 lakh to clear both himself and his relative in the case. Later, Malik asked for a bribe of ₹ 16 lakh in a meeting at a hotel. After negotiations, they settled on ₹ 14 lakh. The complainant received payment instructions that included a hawala token number and contact details of a hawala operator in Mumbai. On Wednesday, the CBI set up a trap to catch the hawala operator who accepted the ₹ 2.5 lakh bribe.
