Delhi proposes ban on car-wash products for Yamuna cleanup
The Delhi government is considering a ban on car-wash products to help reduce pollution in the Yamuna River. This decision is part of a larger effort to improve water quality and fulfill promises made by the BJP government before the upcoming Assembly Elections. If the ban is approved, it would eliminate certain soaps and detergents from the city. These products contain harmful chemicals that can pollute wastewater and harm aquatic life. Water Minister Parvesh Verma emphasized that cleaning the Yamuna is a top priority. He mentioned that banning car-wash products is just one part of the plan. The government also plans to open new car wash centres equipped with wastewater treatment facilities. These centres will allow residents to wash their cars without contributing to river pollution. Information campaigns will educate the public about the negative effects of washing cars on streets and driveways, as this soapy water often flows directly into the river. Additional plans include creating car-wash workshops on government land and producing documentaries about the Yamuna's history. These documentaries aim to raise awareness about the need for a cleaner river. To enforce the ban, the government may use surveillance cameras and special enforcement teams in the future.
