Delhi starts drain desilting early to prevent waterlogging

The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) has begun drain desilting a month early, aiming for completion by mid-June. This proactive measure follows last year's inadequate cleaning, which caused waterlogging on major roads during the monsoon. PWD Minister Parvesh Verma inspected the drainage work on Rohtak Road, a key route between Delhi and Haryana. The National Highways Authority of India will take over the road once the work is finished. The new approach includes hiring a contractor responsible for both desilting and maintaining pump sets. Verma emphasized the need for timely approvals to avoid delays and improve road conditions, which he noted have been poor.
